Summer is finally here and Bury Council and partners will be making sure that it’s one everyone will remember.

Bury Market will host a special event on Wednesday (10 July) aimed at promoting good health for all the family over the long holidays and the months to come.

There will be a cookery and physical activity demonstration from 11am to 1pm. This event will see the launch of the Change 4 Life, Healthy Families for Summer and for Life over the forthcoming months.

Wendy Wray from Delicious will be demonstrating how to cook a healthy, tasty, affordable homemade soup, main meal and dessert and show you just how easy it is. Delicious have achieved “Excellence” in the Greater Manchester Healthier Catering and Hygiene Award and have won the Bolton News and Bury Times business awards in the “Customer Excellence” category.

Also at the event, Bury FC Community Trust will be giving a taster session Tea Dance, a health walk around the market, and their mobile gym will be there throughout.

Public Health and partners will be on hand to give advice on the importance of eating a healthy diet and being physically active as well as what will be available over the summer period for families.

Dr Peter Elton, Director of Public Health for Bury, said: “It can be all too easy to spend too much time on the sofa over the summer, and while it’s great to relax, it’s also important to make sure that you stay active during the holidays.

“Kids aged five to 16 should do at least 60 minutes of physical activity that gets their heart beating faster than usual, and they need to do it every day to burn off calories and prevent them storing up excess fat in the body. And activity’s not just important for kids - it’s also recommended that adults should make sure they’re active for 150 minutes a week.

“So make the most of what’s going on in the area and make sure this summer is a happy and healthy one!”
