Known today as WGC Bury, the home of Walmersley Golf Club, this long-standing local club brings together great golf, beautiful views and a friendly community. With an 18-hole course, professional coaching, flexible memberships and a freshly renovated clubhouse, it’s a place where people can play, relax and feel at home.
A Golf Course with Real Character
Sitting in the hills above Bury, Walmersley Golf Club enjoys far-reaching views across Greater Manchester and the surrounding countryside. It’s quite a backdrop for a round of golf, although the views are only part of the appeal. The 18-hole, par-71 course offers plenty of variety, with changes in elevation, interesting challenges and holes that encourage golfers to think carefully rather than simply reach for the driver.
Founded in 1906, the club has more than a century of golfing history behind it. That heritage still matters, but Walmersley isn’t stuck in the past. The club has recently entered a fresh new chapter, combining the character of a traditional golf club with a more relaxed and modern atmosphere.
Membership, Visitors and Golf Coaching
Golfers don’t need to be long-standing members to enjoy the course. Visitors can book tee times; golf societies can organise group days, and players can take part in regular competitions and open events.
Membership options include:

Professional golf coaching is also available with Karl Tighe. Lessons are suitable for beginners finding their feet, juniors developing their game and experienced golfers trying to iron out those frustrating little habits. Because every golfer has one, don’t they?
Stay for the Clubhouse
Walmersley Golf Club is about more than what happens on the fairway. Its renovated clubhouse includes comfortable dining areas, a bar and terrace, making it a welcoming spot for food, drinks and a proper catch-up after a round.
Practice nets, a putting green, chipping area and practice bunker are available for anyone looking to sharpen their skills. The clubhouse can also host celebrations, meetings, weddings and private events, with flexible spaces and countryside views that give any occasion something a little different.
Whether visiting for golf, joining the club or simply enjoying the social side, Walmersley Golf Club offers a friendly local setting with plenty of personality.
