If you’re a fan of M R James and you relish a spooky night out you should make every effort to get to Great War Huts to see Robert Lloyd Parry’s performance of these classic English ghost stories.

M R James grew up in Great Livermere, about 5 miles from Bury St Edmunds, and knew the town very well. As a medievalist and archaeologist he was fascinated with the history of the Abbey, particularly its library. In 1903 he was responsible for the location and excavation of the tombs of several medieval abbots.

Over a century after they were first published, the ghost stories of M R James
retain their power to terrify and amuse. This gripping one man show retells two of
the eeriest.

Oh, Whistle, and I’ll Come to You, My Lad – a tale of nocturnal horror on the Suffolk
coast – is considered by many to be James’s masterpiece. It is beautifully
complemented here by The Ash Tree, a story of witchcraft and vengeance down the
generations.
