BRING YOUR SPARE CHANGE TO COOPERS SQUARE!

Burton College Students Raise Funds for Young Carers with 201.2 km Bike Ride!

This Sunday (4th March) a group of 12 students from Burton College will be taking part in a 201.2 kilometre cycling challenge in an attempt to raise £200 for Staffordshire Young Carers.

The team of 12 will take it in turns to cycle the distance, which was set to tie in with the 2012 London Olympics. The challenge will take place in Coopers Square Shopping Centre outside Marks and Spencer, where two stationary bicycles will be placed in the Centre for the students to complete their challenge.

If successful the £200 will go towards the £1,250 total the team intend to raise, which will be donated to Carers Association Southern Staffordshire (CASS) charity so a group of Young Carers living in Staffordshire can be taken on a fun activity day out to Whitemoor Lakes where they will get the chance to take part in outdoor activities and water sports.

CASS supports young carers in the local area and provides them with support, advice and helps organise activities for carers to get together and break away from daily routines.

Wayne Chadfield, student at Burton College, CASS Fundraiser and son of Coopers Square Centre Manager David Chadfield, said of the event: “We wanted to give something back and decided to raise money for Young Carers in Staffordshire. CASS is a fantastic charity and being able to give the carers a fun day out is great for respite care and lets the children interact with others who are experiencing similar situations.

“The team are all ready for the cycle on Sunday and we really hope we raise the £200 needed to send the young carers on the activity day. We will be in the Centre from 11am until 4pm and hope people come down and make a donation.”

David Chadfield, Coopers Square Centre Manager added: “It is great the college are raising money for Young Carers and I am really proud of Wayne, my son and the other students who will be taking part in the cycling challenge. We hope people head over to Coopers Square on Sunday to support the team and the charity and we look forward to hearing the result.”

Make sure you head down to the Centre on Sunday to support the team and help them reach the £1250 target. Donations can also be made via the Just Giving pagewww.justgiving.com/care4carers or you can donate via text by simply texting the word CASS55 followed by £2 to 70070.
