Southwick FC
Old Barn Way, Southwick, West Sussex, BN42 4NT
Founded in 1882, the history of Southwick FC is a long and chequered one. Founder members of the Sussex County League in 1920, they won the championship four times between 1923 and 1948, and finished runners-up on a further four occasions. In 1974/75 the Wickers reached the 1st Round proper of the FA Cup, before going out at AFC Bournemouth 5-0. In 1984 Southwick left the CountyLeague for the second time, to join the Combined Counties League. This time the move was a success and the following year the Wickers were promoted to Division Two (South) of the Isthmian League after finishing as runners-up. Success followed success and in 1986, Southwick were promoted to Isthmian League Division One as champions. After finishing 4th in their first season, and 3rd in 1989/90, then the money ran out and they were relegated and opted to rejoin the County League for a third time in 1992/93, taking their place in Division Two. Some hard work behind the scenes by George Bailey and Mick Fogden stopped the club going under. They finished tenth in their first season back and won promoted in the second season. Spending three seasons in the top flight before being relegated again. In 2000/01 Southwick were promoted again, as champions of Division Two and, after narrowly escaping relegation the following season, finished 2002/03 in a more respectable 6th place under the guidance of Sammy Donnelly, who subsequently left to join Three Bridges as Manager. The Wickers fell to 14th the following season, and escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth on the last day of the 2004/05 campaign, beating LittlehamptonTown at Old Barn Way, after picking up just one point from their previous seven games; whilst East Grinstead could only manage a draw at already relegated Sidlesham, sending them down instead. Southwick were not as fortunate in 2005/06 and finished bottom, 20 points adrift from the safety of 18th place, although as it turned out six points would have been enough to spare them the drop, with only one club being relegated from the Division. Since then Southwick have had to settle for a mid-table finish and two seasons at the wrong end of the table. Lloyd Saunders and Roger Feest take charge for the 2010-11 season before Roger moved on and the very expierenced ex Mile Oak manager Tony Gratwicke has become Lloyds assistant. Read more

Sussex County Cricket Club
The PROBIZ County Ground, Eaton Road, Hove, East Sussex, BN3 3AN
Sussex County Cricket Club in Hove was the first First-Class County formed in 1839 The Club has used four cricket grounds in Brighton & Hove - matches were played on a ground donated by the then Prince Of Wales and the ground was fittingly called 'The Prince of Wales Ground (where Park Crescent now lies), Temple Fields (where Montpelier Crescent now lies), Royal Brunswick Ground (where Third and Fourth Avenues are situated) and finally in 1871 the ground in Eaton Road was acquired from the Trustees of the Stanford Estate. Turf from the Royal Brunswick Grounds was transferred and re-laid on the square. The first County match was played at Eaton Road on 6 June 1872 against Gloucestershire. As well as the County Ground, Hove, the Club's First and Second XI regularly play around the County, the grounds at Horsham, Eastbourne and Arundel Castle playing host to First XI fixtures. The Sussex crest depicts the mythological bird the Martlet, famous for having no feet! Capped players have six martlets on their sweaters whilst non-capped players have just the club crest on the left breast. When it comes to caps the capped players have a crest with gold trimming whilst non-capped have white trimming. The Club won its first County Championship in 2003, which was the beginning of an era in which Sussex enjoyed prolonged success, named 'The Golden Decade' Sussex had tasted one-day success in 1963, 1964, 1978 and 1986 but The Golden Decade is regarded as the most successful period in the long history, with Sussex reclaiming the County Championship in both 2006 and 2007, as well as making 2006 a 'double' winning year, with the County also winning the C&G Trophy in a thrilling low-scoring final at Lord's against Lancashire. Sussex also embarked on one-day success, winning the Pro40 League in both 2008 and 2009, the latter also inspiring the Club to a first Twenty20 title, beating Somerset on Finals Day at Edgbaston. They became by far the most successful County side of the decade with stars such as Chris Adams, Mushtaq Ahmed, James Kirtley, Richard Montgomerie, Robin Martin-Jenkins and Murray Goodwin to name but a few.
