Popular children’s writer and illustrator, Aaron Blecha will reveal the tricks of his trade in February, in a new interactive display at Hove Museum.

The Hove-based creator of aliens, zombies and monsters, best-known for books like GoodnightGrizzle Grump! and the Shark School series, will give museum visitors a unique peek into the process behind his work – starting from initial ideas and doodles to creating characters and finished books.

Julia Basnett, Development Manager at Hove Museum, said: “We’re very much a family-focused museum, and children’s books and illustrations are central to many of our activities.  With this project I wanted to bring the process behind successful storytelling and the creation of engaging illustrations to life, and inspire visitors to get involved.

“Aaron’s sketchbooks and illustrations will be displayed alongside 3D models of his characters, and there’ll be a strong emphasis on interactivity and fun.  A range of props, including cut-out figures and interactive landscapes, will encourage visitors of all ages to engage with Aaron’s characters and stories, and hands-on drawing activities will enable them to try their hand themselves.”

The display is expected to evolve during its run, in response to audience reaction and the work visitors create.

Aaron Blecha said: “My family are regular visitors to Hove Museum, so I’m thrilled to be unleashing my alien, zombie and monster creations into its galleries. I’m also looking forward to sharing my behind the scenes process of designing funny characters and illustrating children’s books.”
