The Martlets Hospice offers expert and compassionate care. Our aim is to enhance the quality of life and ease the distress of patients suffering from cancer and other serious conditions and for whom curative treatment is no longer appropriate.
The Martlets Hospice is a registered charity and helps people affected by terminal and life limiting illness living in and around Brighton & Hove.
We provide end of life care services to adults with terminal disease including cancer. Our facilities include an 18 bed InPatient Unit, Day Hospice and Martlets @ Home Service. Practical and emotional support is also offered to the families and carers of our patients including helping them through bereavement.
Our main aim is to maximise the quality of life for our patients and we strive to support patient choice, dignity and independence in all we do. We are a registered charity and all our services are provided free of charge. It costs over £4 million every year to run the Hospice and local community support is essential to our survival
Why we are here The Hospice plays a vital role in helping people to live life as fully as they can right up until the end. Via expert clinical care we ensure that wherever possible peace, respect and calm remain - it's very simple and very human ethos.
What does the Hospice do? The Martlets looks after adults with life limiting illnesses for whom curative treatment is no longer appropriate. This care is aimed at alleviating the distressing symptons associated with serious illness as well as providing specialist emotional support for the families and carers through the illness and into bereavement.
Medical Care The Martlets used to care mainly for terminally ill cancer patients. Over the years the care that the Hospice provides has been made available to a far wider range of people, including those suffering from a number of other debilitating and life threatening conditions.
In-Patient Care The In Patient Unit at the Martlets is a warm, light, friendly and airy place, with 18 beds providing the highest possible level of clinical care.
It's a common misconception that you only come to a hospice for end of life care, actually about 50% of Martlets patients come in for treatment and then return home.
Community and Outpatients Care Whether patients use our Community Services or the Outpatients service they will be supported by an expert clinical team who work with both the patient and their families to ensure that in whatever time the patient has left their quality of life is maintained.
Support Services Supporting the front-line clinical and bereavement teams are a number of key departments, which are all needed to ensure that the Hospice runs smoothly.
