Hove Civic Society was formed in 1961 and has been celebrating our community ever since. The object of the Society is to stimulate and promote community interest in the beauty, history and character of Hove and its surroundings.

Hove Civic Society was formed in 1961 and has been celebrating our community ever since. The object of the Society is to stimulate and promote community interest in the beauty, history and character of Hove and its surroundings. 

Hove Civic Society...

  • Encourages high standards of architecture and town planning, and the conservation of buildings of historical interest;
  • Monitors and comments on significant planning applications and attends meetings on conversation area matters;
  • Promotes actions to help Hove become more sustainable and reduce its carbon footprint; 
  • Monitors the seafront furniture and seeks to improve access to the sea;
  • Develops and launches campaigns to celebrate and improve the character of Hove, including restoring our Victorian tree heritage and a Hove Plinth Public Sculpture Project;
  • Arranges a varied programme of lectures with expert speakers on a range of topics 

As a member of Hove Civic Society you receive three informative newsletters a year, plus free entry to a series of lectures on a wide range of local topics.

Membership is open to everyone who is interested in Hove and supports the aims of the Society.

We have a number of volunteering opportunities - the more help we have, the more we can do. We particularly welcome experts in fundraising, architecture, town planning and sustainable design, but enthusiasm for your local community and a desire to make real change to the quality of life in Hove is the most important attribute.
