Fabrica : Strange Relations
  • Fabrica, 40 Duke Street, Brighton
    BN1 1AG
Exhibition that explores extremity and diversity by playing with scale to open at Fabrica, Brighton on October 9th.

Strange Relations by artists Simon Le Boggit and Carys Reilly explores extremity and diversity as two interlinked themes, and invites audiences to experience work of an extremely large scale and that at a tiny, intimate size. For exhibition visitors, the juxtaposition of the artists’ works offers a playful ‘sizeshifting’ experience. It takes place from 9 October– 28 November 2021.

Selected for the exhibition, which takes place at Fabrica, via an open call disseminated to the pool of around 3000 artists registered with Outside In - a  national charity that aims to provide a platform for artists who face significant barriers to the art world due to health, disability, social circumstance or isolation - Le Boggit and Reilly produce work at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of scale and subject.

Carys Reilly’s series includes psychologically charged sculptures, though tiny, they powerfully convey bodily intimacy and interiority. In contrast, Simon Le Boggit’s expansive video installation, Even Giants Have to Bend, fills Fabrica 10 metre high ceiling with the movement and sound of huge trees in a strong wind, immersing the viewers below it.
