And that reason is Jason Kenny.
Born in Farnworth in 1988, Jason has been hailed as "inspirational" after he stormed to his second gold medal of the games, and his third Olympic title overall, in the process becoming our first double-gold winning member of Team GB.
The 24-year-old cyclist beat his arch-rival, France's Gregory Bauge, to win gold in the men's sprint yesterday, just days after he won the team sprint with Sir Chris Hoy and Philip Hindes.
The motto of this edition of the Olympic Games is 'Inspire A Generation', and that is what he is set to do. The fact he is from Bolton means so much to the town, to sport, and to young aspiring people in the area that now have a role-model and icon to look up to.
And, with his second victory, comes a second golden postbox somewhere out there on the streets of Bolton. The first, located in Churchgate, saw a regular red postbox transformed into a sparkling golden one in recognition of his achievement.
Not only that, but he will also feature on another stamp, this time on his own, a stamp that will undoubtedly become a collector's item, and is set to sell out in record time, much like the one he shared with gold-medal teammates Hoy and Hindes.
His achievements at London 2012 really are incredible, and a great cause of celebration for him and the town. I am sure everybody wishes him the best and sincerest congratulations, as do we at thebestof Bolton. His homecoming will sure be one to remember.
