Join us for a trip to Holtspur Bottom, the only Butterfly Conservation Nature Reserve in our area. A valley-bottom chalk grassland site, demonstrating good grassland restoration for butterflies and other wildlife.
We will explore the two main fields to find out about the restoration project and see a variety of summer butterflies and other wildlife. Target species: Small Blue.
Accessibility & risks: fairly steep slopes, mainly on grassy paths. Please check for ticks after the walk and let the leader know if you have picked up any ticks. (Tick advice)
Please check here the evening before the walk to make sure it is going ahead as planned. This page will be updated regularly.
Meet at the reserve entrance. There is limited parking inside the entrance gate and under the railway bridge. From the A40 roundabout, follow Holtspur Top Lane for about a mile. Turn sharp left (at the bottom of a hill) into Riding Lane and follow it half a mile to the reserve. Please note the reserve vehicle gate is only unlocked for events.
