The award-winning performer kicked things off in October 2025 with an opening night in St Leonards-on-Sea, where early dates quickly sold out. The tour continues through 2026, including a night at Bath's Nowhere Tavern as part of the Bath Comedy Festival.
The new show sees Nichol revisit the high-energy stand-up that built his reputation as a cult favourite on the global comedy scene. Audiences can expect a mix of his most popular routines alongside musical numbers such as You Can’t Say That to Me, Sleazy Massage, Elvis Sucks and the long-time fan favourite Only Gay Eskimo.
Blending music with rapid-fire storytelling, Nichol reflects on everything from his experiences as a Canadian living in the UK to the quirks of British culture and the everyday frustrations of modern life. His performances are known for their spontaneity, sharp improvisation and lively audience interaction, delivered with a distinctive mix of warmth and offbeat chaos.
In recent years, Nichol stepped away from regular touring to take on acting roles, most notably starring in The Hook, where he played Dick Marlin in the ambitious cabaret-circus production.
Even so, his reputation as a leading figure in live comedy remains firmly intact. He received the Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2006 and has created more than 20 shows for the Edinburgh Fringe. His screen credits include appearances in Catastrophe, Uncle and Man Down.
With a career spanning almost 40 years, Trying My Best promises an evening of sharp wit, musical comedy and high-tempo performance—showcasing a comedian still evolving, and still living up to his own tongue-in-cheek promise of “getting better at comedy since March 1987.”
