Bath Rugby is excited to host the Red Bull University 7s on Saturday 26th September, on what is set to be an all-day Festival of Rugby at the Recreation Ground.
On the same day that Bath Rugby play old rivals Gloucester in the West Country Challenge Cup, supporters will come along to the famous ground to watch the finest university 7s teams from across the world vie for the Red Bull Uni 7s title. If that wasn't enough rugby for one day, another historic rugby rivalry will be played out as England face Wales in the Rugby World Cup, with the opportunity to enjoy this must-see game at the Rec.
With games taking place on the main pitch and temporary pitches on the outfield, and plenty of choice of food and drink, this event is a must for the social calendar.
"We're thrilled to be hosting this event as the platform for our new partnership with Red Bull," said Tarquin McDonald, Managing Director of Bath Rugby. "They are an exciting brand that push the boundaries in various sports across the world, and this is a partnership that will be mutually beneficial to Bath Rugby and Red Bull. We're looking forward to seeing where it takes us."
Included amongst the teams that will be representing the Home Nations in the Red Bull Uni 7s are such famous rugby institutions as Cardiff Metropolitan University, Hartpury College, Edinburgh University and, of course, the University of Bath.
Jamie Roberts, Red Bull athlete and Wales international added: "Red Bull Uni 7s is a great opportunity for up and coming players to really showcase their talents on a huge stage. To get the chance to play at The Rec with it's rich heritage is a big incentive for these guys and something that I am looking forward to next season."
In what is a landmark year for the sport in England, Red Bull Uni 7s offers a platform for up-and-coming rugby players to exhibit their skills. A round robin format will culminate in the final, to be played on the Rec's main pitch during half time of the Bath-Gloucester derby.
