Did you know that 1 in 5 of the UK population live below the poverty line?

That’s a scary statistic – thank God for our Foodbanks!!

Barrow Foodbank do a tremendous job in making sure that local people living in crisis, and those who are struggling in our community are fed and supported, with Foodbank Centres operating in Barrow, Ulverston and Millom.

People have always been very generous in donating items by dropping them off at drop- in centres or at supermarkets, adding a few extra items to collection points after shopping at various stores across the region.

Without the support of Barrow Foodbank, many local people would go hungry. It’s a vital support system for people in our community who are struggling.

Barrow Foodbank provides local people with a minimum of 3 days emergency food and support. Last month Barrow Foodbank fed 440 people – 186 of those were children!

Over 90% of the food distributed by Foodbanks in The Trussell Trust network is donated by the public – that’s why your food donations are absolutely vital to our ability to give everyone referred to us a balanced and nutritious three day supply of food.

To help continue the amazing work they do, Barrow Foodbank would really like donations of the following items throughout September:

UHT Milk

UHT Fruit Juice

Super Noodles/ packets of Instant Noodles

Packets of microwave rice

Tins of spaghetti

Pasta n Sauce Sachets

Jars of Coffee

Boxes of cup of soups

So, please – if you can, add a couple of extra items into your basket next time you go shopping and donate them to the Foodbank. Your donation can make a big difference to someone’s quality of life.

You can drop your donations off at Barrow Foodbank at the back of Abbey Road Baptist Church, or you can leave them at collection points at most local supermarkets.

Barrow Foodbank is open Mon - Thurs 11am-1pm and Fri 11am- 3pm

Please call: 01229 343436 for more details.
