As once in a lifetime opprtunities go, carrying the Olympic Torch takes some beating. With the countdown to the 2012 Games ticking by the organisers are on the hunt for 8000 truly inspirational people to carry the torch on its 70 day journey around the country. And you can help.

Would you like to be one of the torch bearers or do you know someone who would love the chance? If so, the London Organising Committee is now taking nominations from now to the end of June.

Who are they looking for?

People who have done something in their local community that is truly special. In the words of the committee "ordinary people doing extraordinary things." Someone who has an inspirational story that will touch the hearts, who makes a big difference to their local community or neighbourhood, who goes out of their way to do that bit extra.  Half the places will go to those aged between 12 and 24.

The demand for places will no doubt be high but if you know someone who fits the bill now is the time to act. Nominating is simple at the London 2012 website and the closing date is 29th June 2011
