A header by Charlie Taylor, 3 minutes into injury time, won Barnet their FA Cup first round tie away at Southport.

Southport, from the Blue Square Bet Premier League, came into the match on the back of a nine game unbeaten run. Barnet took the lead though on the hour with a goal by Clovis Kamdjo.

The lead lasted 12 minutes when Southport equalised through Steve Akrigg.

But Barnet kept battling and avoided a replay thanks to Taylor’s late winner.

After the match Barnet manager Lawrie Sanchez said “It was a very difficult game here against a very good Southport team that are doing very well in the Conference.

"We defended manfully today. They threw a lot at us from corners and free-kicks and the defence did very well against that.

"I'm pleased for the players. We've had a great week, probably the best week's work since I've been here."

In the FA Cup second round Barnet were rewarded with a home tie against Milton Keynes Dons from League 1.

The ties will be played on the weekend of 3 and 4 December.
