Well it was only 77 years, but Andy Murray did it and he did it style with a magnificent victoryat Wimbledon 2013. So, have you now got the urge to dig out your racket and have a go?

I'm sure the tennis clubs and local courts are geared up for an infux of eager players inspired to get out there and show what they are made of.

And there's good news because, no matter what level of skill and experience you have, there are many places where you can play tennis in the borough of Barnet. From free courts in your local park to the better conditions you'll find at the many tennis clubs, you can find something to suit you that's not too far.

And the tennis clubs will be very happy to show you around and give you the chance to see what they offer.

Get Active London is a good starting point letting you search for clubs and courts near where you live.

Or how about getting involved with a local tennis league? The Local Leagues Tennis project, recognised by The Tennis Foundation, gives you the chance to play in friendly, competitive matches.

There are two leagues in the borough - The Hendon Park and the Victoria Park Tennis Leagues. For details of where, when and how to join follow the links to the Local Tennis Leagues website.

And there are lots of Tennis clubs to choose from across the borough if you want better facilities to play on. The LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) website can help with a list of clubs and facilities and lots of information about starting and developing your game.

These include the following clubs ...

Oakleigh Park

Temple Fortune

David Lloyd Finchley

The Drive Edgware

Totteridge Tennis Club

Now where's the best place for strawberries and cream???
