North London Hospice has launched its new ‘Hospice 100’ appeal to coincide with Hospice Week 2012 - a challenge to old and new supporters to raise £100 each.

Hospice Week 2012 is from Monday, 27 February to Sunday, 4 March.

The Barnet-based hospice has an exciting year ahead.

This spring will see the opening of the new purpose-built North London Hospice in Enfield, with specialist day services to complement its well-established inpatient services at Woodside Park.

Hospice Week 2012 will include the hospice’s annual grand raffle, with £1,000s in cash prizes. There will also be a ‘Free Will Week’ with the help of many local solicitors.

North London Hospice Chief Executive, Douglas Bennett, said:

“This year is probably the most significant year for us since North London Hospice began 25 years ago. We will soon be providing day care from our new North London Hospice in Enfield - it will be a proud moment for everyone involved in our work, especially our exceptional volunteers and supporters, and our staff.

Many people don’t realise that North London Hospice is a charity - we rely on the fantastic support of thousands of people and businesses every year to continue providing specialist end of life care.

However, these are challenging times and in 2012 we need that support as we expand our work to provide new services and reach even more people in need of specialist care in Haringey, Enfield and Barnet.”

With the launch of ‘Hospice 100’, the North London Hospice hopes to generate extra funds through all kinds of events in which everyone can participate.

Activities can be home-based, school-based, family-based and work-based – anything goes, from pub quiz nights and fancy dress parties to bingo nights and ‘no school uniform’ days.

Douglas Bennett added: “North London Hospice’s very own professional fundraising team is at hand to help and advise for any fundraising activities. We hope our local communities will rise to the challenge of Hospice 100 and help us in 2012.”

Hospice Week 2012 can help North London Hospice patients in many ways:

  • £100 pays for two sessions of a patient’s 1-to-1 specialist support with a community nurse
  • £200 pays for an out-patient’s one-day complementary care and therapies
  • £250 pays for a hospice ambulance to take patients to and from our day services.

Esther said she was delighted to support North London Hospice during their fundraising week - people know how vital the work we do is but we need to raise awareness of how vital their donations are to help us carry on our work.
