For the 14 days leading up to Valentine’s Day, people across the UK have had the chance to say how great their favourite local businesses are.

During the national competition, tens of thousands of reviews were collected, equating to one every eight seconds as the contest reached its crescendo, and local people have done their bit supporting local businesses across the borough of Barnet.

So we’re delighted to say huge congratulations to Steve and Jane Russell from Russell Automotive Centre for being voted the best loved business in the borough and it’s the second year in a row they’ve won it.

Here are just some of the great reviews received from their customers:

“I couldn't agree more with the other reviews. These guys were great with servicing my Audi. I know nothing about cars, but they were extremely helpful, explained everything and at the end charged a really good price. I will definitely come back again.” Lucy J

“Really pleased with the service and the speed in which the repair was completed. The cost of the repair was also brilliant, nearly 50% cheaper than the main dealerships. The car is running really really well. A very happy customer.”

Pushing Russell Automotive Centre hard for the award was Acculith Repro Printers based in Barnet, taking part for the first time and who came second thanks to reviews like this:

“I am writing a testimonial for Gaby Purton for redesigning and printing my business cards. As I am a plumber, giving business cards out to customers is a good way for me to gain more custom.

I gave Gaby a card which I was currently using and she took it away and within a week came up with a brilliant new design and logo which makes my cards look highly professional.

I was delighted with the outcome and the new cards. I would recommend Acculith Repro Ltd to anybody requiring any kind of printing work.” Stephen N

Speaking about the campaign, Andy Coleman said:

“It’s been great to see local people actively showing some love for their favourite local businesses during the campaign.

It just goes to show how important local independent businesses are to the community and I’d really like to say a big thank you to everyone who got involved.

Small businesses are the engine room of our economy and lots of local business owners – and their loyal staff – are feeling great because their efforts have been recognised and appreciated by so many of their customers.”
