As Christmas approaches you’ll no doubt be wanting to book your tickets for the best Pantos and Christmas Shows. Here’s your guide to the shows taking place in the borough of Barnet during the holiday period …




The Gruffalo’s Child

Following hot on the heels of the sell out tour of The Gruffalo and his monstrous West End success comes the Gruffalo's Child - with attitude! Just how brave is she? Find out by joining her at artsdepot this Christmas season.

The Gruffalo said that no Gruffalo should ever set foot in the deep dark wood... But one wild and windy night, the Gruffalo’s Child ignores her father’s warning and tiptoes out into the snow on her own. After all, the Big Bad Mouse doesn’t really exist... Does he?

Tall Stories Theatre Company returns, bringing Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s award-winning sequel to life in this magical, musical adaptation.

All adults must be accompanied by a responsible child.

Christmas Tales

This Christmas, the Tales from the Shed team present a full-on family Talesomime (a pantomime starring all your favourite Tales characters). It’s gonna be high energy, hi-jinxing fun...Oh no, it’s not! Oh yes, it is!

So bring your little ones to Tales this festive season and Can-Can, The Thing That Goes Blurgh and the Tales team will be right ‘behind you’! 

Come and join a world where everybody can share together, believe in the magic and make it happen. 

Age Recommendation: 0-7 yrs

The Night Before Christmas

The Bull Theatre

Adapted from the poem by Tim Burton, this stunningly visual performance by pupils of the Susi Earnshaw Theatre School is being performed as part of The Barnet Christmas Fayre to raise money for charity. It is 40 minutes long and suitable for all ages.




The Snow Queen

The Bull Theatre

Quantum Theatre present their unique take on Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairy tale in a two hour production, which includes a twenty minute interval. family production aimed at all ages.

One summer's day a splinter from the mirror lodges in Kay's heart and his personality changes - he becomes cruel and aggressive - and later that year, when winter comes, the Snow Queen appears and whisks Kay away to her palace in the North Pole.

She sets out on a long and dangerous journey but eventually reaches the Snow Queen's palace.

Kay seems unrescueable, but Gerda's tears melt the splinter in his heart and the spell is broken.

They travel home and find that it hasn't changed, but they have - they've grown up and it's summer time once more.




Choirs R Us Christmas Concert

This promises to be an wonderful evening of powerful contemporary songs sung by this thriving Barnet adult choir.  The newly formed Youth Choir will be performing alongside them and they aim to sing their hearts out!




Puss in Boots

It's time for the Pantomime season and the Guild Players , Finchley's Amateur Dramatic Group, present Puss in Boots .

Peter has been thrown out of his home by his scheming but bungling brothers Hector and Casper. With the magical assistance of Mother Goose, Peter's loyal old cat is transformed into Puss in Boots. Together with his other friends from the village they fight to reclaim his rightful inheritance.

Along the way they have to deal with the evil Gruesome and his master Crunchbones the ogre. Also involved in the mayhem are Queen Fanny and her madcap assistant Freckles, Jack Spratt, Marjory Daw, a long suffering Chamberlain and an unexpected ghost.

Music for all the family, including: Handel: Zadok the Priest, JS Bach: Sheep May Safely Graze, Vaughan Williams: Fantasia on Christmas Carols, Tchaikovsky: Nutcracker Suite (excerpts) with music by Elgar, J Strauss and J Willcocks and favourite carols for all to sing.
