Chris Smith, from Friends of Barnet Market, has good news to report about Barnet market. The two planning applications submitted by William Pears Group, the new owners of Barnet Market, have been approved.

This was confirmed to Chris by two senior LBB planning officers.

This means that Barnet Market will be completely renewed.

The plans mean there will be site improvements and enable it to be used as a car park on non-market days. The market site will be resurfaced, the hoardings replaced by a perimeter fence, there will be new stalls and toilets for the traders, a market office, a storage container, planting of ten mature trees and more.

The aim is to have the work completed so that the site opens for trading in the early autumn.

For more information see the Friends of Barnet Market (FoBM) website and you can join and be a friend of the market too. As Chris says …

“We want to boost the membership of FoBM, we have over 1700 members but would like three times that number.

It is free to join, nothing is required from you other than your support for Barnet Market. If you love Barnet Market you can join. You’ll get up-to-date and accurate information from me as and when it available. What you don't get is bombarded with nonsense.”

And one more piece of good news from Chris …

“As many of you may know Steve Dickinson (central stall - fruit and veg and see photo above) IS BACK. Please go and see him on Saturday he would love to talk to you.”
