Joining the global celebrations of music and music making
Make Music Day is the world’s largest annual music festival with FREE events in more than 1000 cities across 120 countries. A grassroots celebration of music that's performed by anyone and enjoyed by everyone.
As part of the celebrations, Make Music Abingdon is organising a Make Music Day in Abingdon Town Centrefrom 2pm-midnight on Friday June 21 – the longest day of the year. We start the event with music workshops in the Library and the Guildhall rooms. There will be drumming, ukulele, song-writing, community singing, fiddle playing and body music workshops. Music then fills the Market Place from 5 till 9pm with a mix of established acts and workshop performances in genres ranging from opera over lo-fi pop to rock covers. When the light eventually starts to fade, the music will spread to local pubs and cafés seeing teen artists in one, blues jam in another as well as acoustic acts, piano music and more. Something for everyone.
