Each 10-week term is divided into 2 sections of between 4 - 6 weeks whereby the first half of the term will introduce techniques and approaches to art making with sessions led by Ali, focussing on different media and methods including mainly painting, drawing, collage and basic printmaking.
During the second half of the term each student will undertake a self-initiated theme-based project using some or all of the new skills and approaches learned during the previous sessions. Ali will set the theme and the student will have the opportunity to develop ideas and responses in creative and personal directions.
The main aim of these classes is for each student to develop their strengths and preferences in an encouraging atmosphere. Rather than learning one approach to painting, it will give you opportunities to explore new materials and methods with an emphasis on playful experimentation and gentle risk taking. Students are expected to learn not only from the tutor-led sessions and from self-initiated exploration, but also from each other. There is a generous approach to sharing and encouraging one another in the class.
