The hidden jewel in Abergavenny’s crown

Lots of people have lived in Abergavenny for years but have never visited Linda Vista Gardens, off Tudor Street.  It’s a treasure waiting to be discovered, right in the centre of town. The glorious spring weather of the past week has brought azaleas into flower and new leaves out on the copper beech trees, while there is still a good display of daffodils and tulips.

If you come into town and park in Byfield Lane car park, look out for the well-signposted entrance on your way up, and take time to pop in to this wonderful but underrated open space on your way through town.

There’s a willow tunnel and woodland play area for young children, and new boardwalks which make it possible for people with baby buggys or who use wheelchairs to get around the gardens with ease.

Just now the foxglove tree is in full flower and there are wisteria flowers which won’t be far behind.

Linda Vista is a lovely peaceful spot, so if the weather’s fine why not pick up a tasty filled roll or baguette from Harry’s Sandwich Bar and have a picnic in the gardens. And if you unfortunately get caught in an April shower, take shelter at For the Love of Cake for a coffee and a slice of scrumptuous locally-made cake.
