A care home in Aberdeen is opening its doors to the community for a free Parkinson’s support event.

On Tuesday 6th October, from 11am-12.30pm, local residents will have the opportunity to find out more about Parkinson’s and the support on offer for families affected by the condition at Care UK’s Tor-Na-Dee on North Deeside Road in Milltimber.

Expert Barbara Webster, from Parkinshon’s UK, will offer helpful guidance and practical tips for improving the everyday lives of those affected by Parkinson’s, alongside useful information about local support groups and specialist services in Aberdeen and surrounding areas.

There will be a question-and-answer session to give everyone the opportunity to raise individual concerns and share experiences, and attendees will also be able to meet the team at Tor-Na-Dee and get a better feel for what life at a care home is really like.

Sue Jones-Wood, Home Manager at Tor-Na-Dee, said: “According to Parkinson's UK*, someone in the UK is diagnosed with Parkinson's every 20 minutes. Age is the biggest risk factor for the condition, with the average age of diagnosis being 69.

“Across Care UK, we care for many residents living with Parkinson’s and we have seen first-hand how the experiences of individuals and their families can be transformed by having access to the right information and support.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the community to Tor-Na-Dee to benefit from the specialist knowledge and expert advice on offer.”

Tor-Na-Dee provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care. Designed to enable residents to lead enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema, hair and beauty salon and gardens, and there is plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
