A shopkeeper based in Aberdeen Market today claimed a project to upgrade a historic part of Aberdeen was costing them dear. Thomas Thomson, a butcher said work to improve The Green had cut the number of customers going into the building each day and claimed he was losing £1,000 a week because of a dip in the number of customers to Aberdeen Market.
Mr Thomson said the closure of one of the entrances during the £2.8 million upgrade project at The Green has had a dramatic impact on Aberdeen Market.
An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said: “Access to Aberdeen Market is via Union Street, Market Street, Hadden Street and The Green, the main entrances being on Market Street and Union Street. The works being carried out will make The Green and the businesses in it more accessible and more attractive to customers."
