Will a Scotsman win the Masters?

It is a long time since Sandy Lyle won at Augusta and we are certainly hoping that a European comes through this year. Considering that so many Europeans feature in the top 100 golfers world-wide, it must surely be our turn.

Paul Lawrie has been on some of the best form of his career in the past 12 months – but has he got what it takes? Personally, I am not sure, but if he makes the cut and he stays fit he is certainly capable.

I also favour Ian Poulter, Justin Rose and Rory Mcilroy. They all have to put Tiger out of their minds, because if he is back to form, there is probably no one who can touch him. If he has a couple of bad days at the office, then he will defeat himself.

You can never rule out Phil Mickelson, who seems to love Augusta. He is also a charming man, as my wife, Susan, can testify. We helped to marshal at the Scottish Open 2 years ago and he said hello to her and everyone involved. She was quite taken by him. Some golfers ignore everyone and don’t seem to be enjoying themselves, but Phil just smiles and gets on with it.

So my money is on one of these, but I won’t tell you which one in case it puts a jinx on him!

Who do you think will win?
