Aberdeen Lions Club are inviting hardy souls to brave the elements on Boxing Day by taking a sponsored dip in the chilly North Sea.
Last year, 100 ‘Nippy Dippers’ raised over £10,000 for a wide variety of deserving causes.
The Nippy Dipper is a fantastic way to blow away the Christmas cobwebs, have some fun and raise money for local good causes. It’s a dip, not a swim and participants, who must be aged 16 or over, stay within their depth and are in the water for no more than two minutes.
Participants can raise funds for their own charity or good cause, or they can support the Lions Club's designated charity, the Lord Provost's Charitable Trust.
Dippers take part singly or in teams and some return each year. Many wear Fancy Dress.
This year’s Dip will take place opposite the Beach Leisure Centre and, once again, Aberdeen City Council are kindly providing use of the centre's showers and changing rooms.
The Lord Provost will lead the participants to the icy waters at around 10.30am.
Spectators are encouraged to come along and cheer on the hardy souls.
The Lions Club will collect all cash raised on the day and make a formal presentation to the charities early in the New Year.
Anyone wishing to take part in the 2009 ‘Nippy Dipper’ Boxing Day Dip should contact Chris Southworth on 0777 157 5985 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
