Aberdeen Council HQ site may become a hotel
St Nicholas House, in Broad Street, has been earmarked for a possible multimillion-pound hotel development in the city centre.
It is also understood that a new 100-bed hotel and offices could be built at the Denburn Health Centre.
Local hoteliers are understood to be questioning the proposals because there will soon be more hotel beds than are needed in Aberdeen.
The Council needs to be careful that it is not making a rod for its own back, since local hoteliers may feel agrieved that business is being taken away from them.
By the end of this year there will be an extra 550 rooms available with existing developments in Aberdeen and many will argue that this is more than enough in the current economic climate.
