Monty makes it to the Open Golf Championship at St Andrews

Colin Montgomerie produced a stunning round of 62 at Sunningdale to clinch a course record and secure a place at the Open.  The Ryder Cup Captain shared second spot with fellow Scotsman Andrew Coltart.

Monty thought he had blown it on the last hole, where he went into the bunker by the green. Thinking it was a par 4, he expected to be in a play-off, but it was a par 5 which he managed to birdie and secure his place.

Stephen Gallacher cut short his challenge when he scored a 7 on one hole and decided to walk in.  If that was the worst score on my card every time I played, I would be delighted, but for these guys it is obviously a disaster.

Being a past Open champion, Aberdeen’s Paul Lawrie is guaranteed a place at the Open.

It will be interesting to see how the various Ryder Cup players fare, with the exitement rising for the big match in South Wales later in the year.  My money is on Europe!
