Press release from Glencraft, Aberdeen.

"An Aberdeen charity is giving something back to the community that supports it by opening it's doors to students from Bucksburn Academy.

Glencraft Aberdeen, who are currently celebrating their 150th birthday in supplying beds and mattresses all over Scotland, welcomed special needs student Kieran to their base in Tullos this week for work experience.

Kieran is interested in upholstery and will be working with experienced staff in the making of divans and it is hoped that if the partnership is successful, training positions at Glencraft may become available.

Sales and marketing co-ordinator for Glencraft, Gillian Huthersall said: “This is a really exciting partnership that benefits the community as a whole. We have an ageing workforce and it is refreshing to get a younger generation in ready to learn.”

Glencraft is a social enterprise for crafts people with a variety of abilities and disabilities. Their culture is all about having the freedom to be who you are and enjoying what you do and they try to build that spirit of fun and independence into their products.

Bucksburn Academy Depute Rector Derek Thomson said: “I am delighted we have forged this relationship between Glencraft and the ASN Wing Bucksburn Academy. This promising partnership will I am sure offer opportunities for our young people in the ASN Wing in developing their Skills for Work and Skills for Life. Our thanks to Glencraft for their partnership initiative.”
