Aberdeenshire Council has signed up its 1,000th follower on Twitter – just as the social networking site is about to come into its own as a means of instant communication for the local authority. The Twitter account was set up a year ago to provide another way of quickly disseminating council information. And it has reached the 1,000-follower milestone ahead of the winter season, when it is likely to prove its worth as it communicates immediate updates on weather-related problems.
Over the coming months You could call it a ‘gritter twitter’ as it relays information on winter road conditions as well as on school closures.
The link was initially advertised on the website through the school closures section, and the account automatically sends out a tweet each time the section is updated.
The account – http://twitter.com/Aberdeenshire – is updated as soon as a news release is uploaded to the council’s website and offers a direct link to the article.
Followers include Aberdeenshire residents, local and national businesses, organisations and other local authorities.
We own thebestofaberdeen and are always on the look out for interesting things that are happening in Aberdeen City and Shire, great local businesses and your views about anything local.
