"Fit Like Yer Majesty?"

A Book of Doric Poems complied by The Reading Bus

In 2007 Matthew Fitt and Sheena Blackhall offered pupils the opportunity to enhance their enjoyment of Scots and to develop literacy skills. This work was so enthusiastically received that we have now produced our own high quality book of Doric Verse.

Fit Like, Yer Majesty? was launched on 11th September 2008 at a glittering ceremony at Fyvie Castle. The anthology contains 47 poems from "scrievers" all over Scotland. Renowned artist, Bob Dewar, has produced 59 vibrant illustrations to complement the poems. Maureen Watt, MSP, has kindly written the foreword.

Since the launch 4,000 copies have been sold and due to the extraordinary demand a second print has been ordered. The book was October's book of the month on Scottish Book Trust and received a fantastic review.

The Reading Bus team, together with their many cross-agency partners, has developed a comprehensive series of learning experiences to complement the poems and their vibrant illustrations. These innovative approaches use a variety of tools including storytelling, film animation, broadcasting, dramatisation, film making.
