The Pilates Centre was opened in Wrexham in January 2006 by Cathryn Rees-Slawson, a highly qualified instructor who trained at the Alan Herdman Pilates Studio in London. Alan Herdman brought Pilates to Britain in the 1960 and Cathryns training was completed under his personal tutelage.
Cathryn, a trained dancer was forced to abandon professional dancing due to a back injury. She became a fully qualified fitness instructor and personal trainer during time spent in Australia. Long distance running had become part of her own fitness regime but recurrent knee problems and the remaining back injury were making this increasingly painful. It was then that she found Pilates which employed the technique of keeping supple and strong without putting pressure on the knees and back. Pilates has greatly improved the condition of her knees and the back pain has gone completely. Pilates has helped Cathryn through three pregnancies and getting back into shape afterwards.
PREGNANCY puts extra demands on our body. In particular extra stain is put onto our back. Pilates can provide the strength and tone for the back, legs, buttocks and deep abdominal muscles that is required to cope with the physiological changes during pregnancy.
AFTER THE BIRTH Pilates is extremely effective in reconditioning the muscle tone of the pelvic floor and deep abdominal muscles. Helping to retrieve that “pre baby” figure.
CLIENTS include young tennis players, people awaiting or having received major surgery, those with serious back complaints, some energetic 80 year olds and many who just want to get fit and improve their posture.
PILATES originally catered for professional dancers, but it’s way of engaging mind and body soon extended its popularity with people of all ages and from all walks of life. Pilates gentle, flowing actions provide tone, poise and grace.
CLASSES are relaxed, casual and friendly. You will leave feeling relaxed and calm, as if you have gently woken some of those forgotten muscles. Pilates is not a “quick fix” and one session will not turn you into a supermodel. However after about 12 sessions you should notice a definite improvement to your posture and be feeling fitter, leaner and more energetic.
