The Bishop's Palace and Gardens, Wells is an historic building and stately home located in the heart of the City of Wells in Somerset.
Walking from the Wells Market Place through the Bishop's Eye and across the Bishop's Green to the Moat and Drawbridge, the busy world is left behind as you enter the Palace.
Once inside the Palace defensive walls, the medieval buildings and gardens quietly tell their story. This peace continues in the outer gardens, here beside the wooded picnic area and bordered flowerbeds rise the springs that give the City of Wells its name.
There is a wealth of history and beauty on display at The Bishop's Palace in Wells. You can be sure to be lost for the whole day in its medieval past.
For over 150 years the swans in Wells have rung the bell on the outside of the Gatehouse of the Bishop's Palace, Wells for food. Taught by the daughters of Bishop Aukland and Bishop Hervey, the original swan is preserved in the Wells and Mendip Museum.
