This webvert for this charity is to increase Southwark residents awareness of this charities work through not only donation but also volunteer-ship. The Tag Rugby Development Trust (TRD Trust) is a charitable organisation which has been setup through the help of individual donation and sponsorship to initiate, develop and sustain the playing of Tag Rugby in primary schools in developing countries. The structure of the charities work is designed to feed into existing rugby development programmes in the host country and Southwark residents can get involved (Donate, sponsor or care to volunteer?)
For an individual, sport, and in our particular case rugby, this charities work and care offers the benefits of health and fitness, an opportunity to express oneself, an introduction to working as a team and the ability to feel a real sense of achievement by involvement in the charity. The charity through working with children in developing countries also hopes to pass on the wider message that sport plays in society, that of transcending political, cultural and class barriers
The tours of the charity
The goals of this charitable organisation are achieved through two and a half week Tours, made up predominantly of volunteers who care passionately about bringing this sport to developing countries and will come from the rugby community in the UK (here we are reaching out to you in Southwark to get involved or donate). The charities tours are aimed at anyone with an interest in Rugby, not just highly qualified, full-time rugby coaches. They appeal to any individual who would like the opportunity to deliver basic level rugby training to school children in a countries where the sport is very much in need of grass roots development. In addition we take along coaches from clubs in the host country to help in our charity work.
The tours setup by the charity will provides the volunteers with the opportunity to experience a very different culture, potentially in remote areas where the average daily wage is less than the price of a pint of beer in a typical Southwark pub. In addition they will have the chance to introduce a new and sustainable skill into communities deprived of such past-times for a long time.
The resources required by this charity to launch a rugby initiative for schools in developing countries are modest by UK standards – balls, tags, cones, bibs and training manuals and are funded by either donations or sponsorship. More scarce still are the experience and knowledge of the game required for sustainable development and promotion of the sport. By including local coaches on out Tours we are able to ensure the necessary skills remain in country.
If as a Southwark resident you wish to be part of such an exciting and worth while charity please get in touch to either volunteer or donate.
