Heritage Open Days - Leader House
The innocuous-looking Leader House is a rare survivor of 18th century Sheffield and pre-dates surrounding buildings such as the Central Library and Graduate pub. Named after silversmith Thomas Leader, who leased the residence in 1777, Leader House became the property of Sheffield Council in 1938, surviving both the Blitz and later plans for demolition. Now the offices of Museums Sheffield, the charity which runs nearby Millennium Gallery and Graves Gallery, Leader House is not open to the general public, though passers-by occasionally spot its resident ghost peering sadly out of a second floor window.
