Heritage Open Days - Sheffield Cathedral
Sheffield Cathedral is one of the oldest buildings in daily use in Sheffield. It is ‘a beguiling place’ (Pevsner): the east end tower and spire date from the 15th century. After WWI plans to enlarge the Cathedral and move the high altar to the north account for the chapels on that side. A later extension to the west end ( 1966) is crowned by a striking lantern tower. In 2007 a new Cathedral Resources Centre was opened by HRH the Princess Royal.
