The Macmillan Cancer Support charitable organisation is well known in Sheffield for the specialist nurses caring for terminally ill people with cancer. In reality this is only part of the support provided for cancer sufferers and their carers by Macmillan Cancer Support in Sheffield. With more funding from the public Macmillan Cancer Support would be able to do even more.
The bare facts are that 1 in 3 people will get cancer. Nationally some 1.2 million people are living with cancer. Of the half a million people in Sheffield approximately 170,000 will get cancer during their life. Cancer affects almost everyone, those who suffer from it and those who care them.

In Sheffield Macmillan provides around 40 health professionals including experienced nurses, occupational therapists, radiographers, physiotherapists, and GP advisors. In 2008 there are plans to recruit 7 further health professionals in Sheffield including follow up specialists for children’s cancers.

Do you Care for Someone with Cancer
At times you will need a break and support yourself. Macmillan Cancer Support works with the Crossroads charity which provides support for the carers of those suffering with Cancer.
