MASTERPIECE DRAMA
The Glass Menagerie
By Tennessee Williams
Brenda Blethyn arrives at Richmond Theatre for the first time in this new production of Tennessee Williams’ semi autobiographical first play.
Its premiere at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre earlier this year drew major laudits for its excellant ensemble acting and finely tuned comedy.

Amanda Wingfield, a faded Southern belle who long ago lost both her money and her husband, clings to her memories of a genteel past when she once entertained seventeen gentleman callers in an afternoon. Her ambition in life is to see her flaky, wallflower daughter Laura receive a suitor of her own. She and her son Tom, a would-be writer, arrange a visit. But when the reluctant beau arrives, their lives are changed forever.
Brenda Blethyn received Oscar nominations for his roles in Little Voice and Secrets & Lies, and her many other award-winning films include Pride and Prejudice, Atonement and Saving Grace. TV credits include Belonging, Outside Edge and Chance in a Million.
