Happy 1st Birthday English House
30th November 2009

We were out at the English House on Friday night, helping them to celebrate their first year in Lichfield. And what a year it's been!

English House opened their doors in November 2008, with what must count as the worst timing in the world -just as the true impact of the credit crunch was making itself felt and in time for the most frugal Xmas in years and in a town with what seems like hundreds of restaurant! All the more credit then to Kevin and the team for making such a great success of things. Any restaurant that can open just as the bottom of the market falls out, and not just survive but triumph in the the way that English House has, must be doing something right.

And if Friday night is anything to go by, they are doing the right thing in bucketloads. The menu had some old favourites from their special Jamaican and Mexican nights plus their range of good quality English dishes and perfectly cooked steaks. The food, particularly the bread and butter pudding(!) was perfect. The champagne flowed and Kevin, the owner and head chef gave a lovely little speech to thank staff and customers alike and to remind us that he uses local, seasonal and fresh produce to create his mouthwatering dishes.

The English House is a great Lichfield success story which shows once again that local businesses can thrive in hard times by providing the sort of quality and service that national chains just can't compete with. And if you want to know what thier customers are saying take a look here.

If you haven't been yet, it's time to book. Give them a call on 01543 419999.
