What is Soundstudio? Created in 1998 by founder Daniel Shirley, Soundstudio has developed into one of the most innovative youth music projects of its time. Soundstudio is a music project that uses music and music technology to engage with primarily young people, vulnerable adults and those with targeted needs. Using music as a relevant and attractive means to motivate, develop and inspire, whilst also developing a range of transferrable, personal and social skills. Since Soundstudio started the project has built a wealth of expertise working with sometimes challenging groups in a range of settings. The areas of common provision include computer based music production, live recording, lyric writing, vocal coaching, performance training, DJing and MCing, instrumental sessions, as well as studio engineering, studio recording, taster sessions, master classes, software courses, GCSE Music/ English, OCN, ASDAN and the Arts Award. Our kit is 100% mobile and Soundstudio can run sessions inside or outside, at a range of venues and to a wide spectrum of user groups. We have worked in schools, bail hostels, community centres, sports halls, youth prisons, childrens’ homes and a variety of other locations. Client groups vary according to the needs and desires of the participants but also the host organisations e.g. Connexions working with young mothers, PRUs working with those out of education, training or employment. Through music many skills can be developed to enhance self esteem and self belief regardless of lack of experience, curriculum attainment, behavioural issues or special needs. We are 100% flexible and can adapt sessions to cater for the participant’s abilities, interests and positive progression. Partnership is an area Soundstudio works in very often with partners such as local authorities, special needs associations, Youth Offending Institutes, YOS, PRUs and specialist schools,Include groups, alternative learning centres, public care clients, drama and dance groups, youth services and leisure groups,Town councils, Thames Valley Partnerships, British Council, Thames Valley Police, theatres and mental health trusts, Voluntary youth groups, Mencap, Connexions, Parish Councils, Urban artists, community groups, colleges and international youth initiatives. Soundstudio are always open to new possibilities through a range of opportunities. We offer targeted work with fun but constructive and beneficial outcomes to the provider and young people/ participants. Please check out session possibilities on the pages in this site.
