Chantraine Dance of Expression
A distinctive approach to dance for children, young people and adults in Wanstead, South Woodford, Woodford Green, Leytonstone, Walthamstow, Forest Gate, Gants Hill, Buckhurst Hill, Loughton and Chingford.
Created by Alain and Françoise Chantraine in France in 1957, The Chantraine Dance of Expression has crossed the Channel and is a firm favourite in Redbridge with over 130 students attending classes and enjoying this excitingly different approach to dance at the Wanstead Chantraine Dance School.
The Chantraine Dance of Expression includes the familiar styles of ballet, folk, contemporary, classical and jazz plus the dances of other cultures. Its aim is to help students of all ages to to understand and to develop in all aspects of dance through rhythm, inner awareness, technique, creativity and choreography, so going far beyond style alone.
The Chantraine approach to dance is as an unlimited expressive art involving the whole person. It’s great for improving strength, fitness, flexibility, communication skills and confidence as well as increasing energy and well-being.
Each dance class provides the variety of experience that an all-round dancer needs. The Chantraine Dance School offers a wide and exciting repertoire of choreographies and the chance for students to create their own dances. There is also the opportunity to take part in workshops, performances and annual festivals.
Children are taught in dance classes suitable for their age group which are held after school, Monday to Friday, in term time only. Early evening classes are available for students aged 14 + whilst two sessions are available for adults, on Tuesday evenings from 8pm and Friday afternoon at 1.15pm. All dance classes take place at the Christchurch Parochial Halls, Wanstead Place, Wanstead.

- Chantraine dance fees can be paid by instalments
- New dance students are always welcome to visit to try a class before joining. The first class is always free.
- Reductions for families: There are special reductions available for families where more than one person is a pupil.
- It is the policy of the Chantraine Dance School that no-one should be prevented from attending for financial reasons. Concessionary fees are always available so please do not hesitate to ask.
- Classes available also in NW London, N London and High Wycombe and in France.
