Supporters of Fairtrade recently gathered at Burscough's British Legion to celebrate the event.
Fairtrade works to enable disadvantaged producers in developing countries to receive a living wage from their work.
In order for Burscough to be awarded Fairtrade town status it had to achieve several goals. One of these goals involved West Lancashire District Council passing a resolution to support Fairtrade.
A steering committee has been working diligently for the past three years to achieve Fairtrade town status.
The steering group plans to continue their valuable work to continue to raise awareness and support for Fairtrade in the local community. They are also encouraging local groups and businesses to sign up and support Fairtrade.
