With no piles of cheap-lit books, Cogito takes pride in stocking an eclectic range of fiction and non-fiction books , chosen by its owners to suit Hexham’s discerning book buying public.  No book is recommended without understanding, no book is sold without care.

The staff in Cogito Books of Hexham are happy to search for books on their database, and they pride themselves on their skill in being able to track down books from the vaguest information when necessary.  With their wide knowledge, Cogito’s staff can suggest books to suit your needs should you ask for help.  Cogito has earned itself a reputation for efficiency and reliability, providing a salon style atmosphere and friendly ambiance.  Cogito’s reputation for excellent service as a bookshop has led to it being a major supplier of books to the schools in the Hexham, Tynedale and Newcastle areas.

Cogito Books' particular strengths are poetry  - one of the best selections of poetry books in Hexham and the North East - and unusual fiction, as well as strong history books , religion books and philosophy book sections.  Cogito Books of Hexham boasts an exciting territory for children and young adults (otherwise known as the awkward age!), with space for children to sit down and investigate books.

To complement the books, Cogito has an increasingly large choice of classical CDs; any CD can be ordered, as can any book in print.  If you are looking for an interesting selection of greeting cards, you need look no further than Cogito’s of Hexham, which has a superb collection.  A recent addition is a selection of traditional wooden educational toys – aesthetically pleasing and fun to use.

As well as accepting National Book Tokens, Cogito Bookshop of Hexham also sells it’s own Cogito Books Vouchers, which can be exchanged for anything in the shop, not just books.  We provide our own distinctive bookmarks, which have now been sighted by Cogito bookshop cognoscenti all over the world!

What a lovely little bookshop this is! My children could probably spend all day here and I get the feeling this wouldnʼt actually be a problem! The atmosphere is welcoming and I felt quite happy sitting on the floor next to my daughter as we browsed through LOTS of different books in the childrenʼs section before finally making the all important choice. Meanwhile, my son was more than comfortable on the sofa, contemplating just which dinosuar book had the best information. This is exactly what you want from a bookshop and, when we finally did get to the till, the friendly service did not disappoint. Oh, and I mustnʼt forget, theyʼve got lots of good books too!!

Lovely old fashioned bookshop where you can browse to your hearts content! I often go in for one particular book but leave with many as they have such a vast selection. Any book not in the shop will be ordered for you and arrive within days.

This is a good old fashioned bookshop where the staff know their stuff. They have an excellent range of books suitable for children and adults. The books are organised in a way that they are easy to find, although it is a pleasure just browsing. There is an area where children can sit and read or do puzzles whilst adults are looking for what they want. If a book is not available, they are ordered and usually arrive the next day.
