Recruitment 'eBay' to launch

Recruitment Agencies - 22/11/2006 16:51:22

Recruitment agencies across the country will be on their toes next week when a new eBay-style service which allows employers to hire job seekers by the hour is launched.

The Liverpool-based Slivers-of-Time programme, which has been given a £500,000 cash injection by the government, looks set to be a huge success with 400 people already signed up.

Another 5,000 workers are on the waiting list to join the scheme which will give employers across the country access to including carers, caterers, students and the newly retired, who are unable to commit to regular part-time work.

Potential employees run an online diary stating when exactly they are free to work that day. Organisations looking for workers write in their needs and are instantly able to "buy" a worker that fits their criteria.

Managing director of social enterprise firm South Liverpool Recruitment Nick Hughes said: "It's an eBay for the workplace where people can sell and buy time. Companies can tap into the local workforce and access a much wider pool of candidates."

Once hired, workers will be rated online on their reliability and potential employers can read feedback from others about what the employee was like to work with.
