Plumbers work to save awards

Plumbers - 16/11/2006 16:37:19

Emergency plumbers have been called into a school in the Lake District after heavy rain caused sewers to leak.

Ehenside school in Cleaton Moor near Kendal has been closed all day today while plumbers work to fix the problem, although the school has claimed that it will be open in time for tonight's annual awards ceremony.

Acting school head Garyth Orton told the News & Star that he was certainly confident that the education facility would be open tomorrow as usual.

Mr Orton said: "With the torrents of rain yesterday one of the chambers was overflowing and raw sewage come and out and onto the site.

"I decided for the safety of the children that I would close the school today. The issue is being resolved and the plumbers say there will be no problem with the school being open tomorrow."

At the annual awards ceremony pupils from the lower years receive certificates for outstanding achievement while last year's Year 11 pupils return to receive their GCSE awards.
