Letting agents and private landlords hoping to make some extra cash from the Ryder Cup have been warned that the taxman will be keeping a close eye on tax dodgers.
County Kildare property owners with rooms and houses to let are set to cash-in on one of the sporting world's biggest events as Europe takes on the US at golf.
Tourists, the media and players and their families are set to besiege the Irish town of Straffan and rental prices are expected to a rise throughout the duration of the tournament.
However, inspectors from the Revenue Commission have promised to keep a close eye on landlords and letting agents and to clampdown on any who do not declare their correct earnings on tax forms.
An unnamed inspector said: "This will be a major crackdown against blatant tax evasion.
"Householders are entitled to recoup a certain amount for renting facilities, but the sums involved here are huge and will have to be declared."
According to reports, homes as far as 24 miles away have been rented for $75,000 (£39,000) and even flats up to 30 miles away have rented for $2,000 (£1,000) a day.
If you want to rent a property you're best-off contacting letting agents in your area who can offer you a professional service.
