Employment in letting agents has risen in line with the steady growth in property rentals, new figures have shown.
According the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA), the number of staff employed by its member firms has increased by nearly a quarter in the last two years.
The number of rental properties has been steadily increasing in recent years, but according to ARLA there are still not enough properties available.
Six in ten central London letting agents claimed to have more potential tenants than they do properties.
Figures from the letting agents' umbrella group also found that women currently outnumber men by two to one in the sector, with females occupying the top jobs up and down the country.
ARLA chief executive, Adrian Turner, said: "It is disappointing that more men have not come into the industry.
"The future is bright for the private rented sector and it provides excellent career opportunities. Hopefully, as the sector expands as forecast, we will see more men looking to make a career in lettings."
