Good year for the lettings agents

Letting Agents - 02/11/2006 12:02:36

Letting agents have had a profitable third quarter according to new figures released by the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA).

Buy-to-let properties in the UK are being sold at an unprecedented rate leaving thousands of flats and rooms available for rent. New landlord-focused legislation, which is currently being put in place the sector, has also meant considerable growth.

Other factors which are influencing the boom in the rental market are the increase in property prices that consistently stop first-time-buyers from getting a foot on the property ladder and the influx of eastern Europeans needing fast accommodation.

Jan Bartlett, lettings expert at the NAEA, said: "The lettings market has seen many significant changes in the last 12 months.

"The introduction of licensing of houses of multiple occupation, tenancy deposit schemes and the housing health and safety rating system, have and will have significant impacts upon the market."

The survey, which has been launched for the first time today, shows changes in the lettings market and allows agents to prepare for any predicted growth or fall.
